Marriage is the process of the establishment of relations between two persons which creates their rights, duties, responsibilities, and privileges.
In Nepal, all the proceedings related to the registration of marriage are administered by the chapter of the Marriage of civil code 2017 (2074) and the Marriage Registration Act 2028.

Court Marriage Registration in Nepal between Nepali Citizens

Documents Required for Court Marriage Registration in Nepal between Nepali Citizens

1. Citizenship
2. Unmarried or divorced Verification Certificate from permanent residence
3. Temporary Residence Certificate(must have been residing there for a minimum of 15 days) from the ward office of your temporary address if you want to marry from your temporary location.
4. 2 witnesses who have Nepalese citizenship
5. 4 photos(pp size)

Process of Court Marriage Registration in Nepal between Nepali Citizens

1. Fill up the application form in the district court from where you are registering.
2. A deed of the declaration by both marrying parties should be signed accepting each other as husband and wife in consent of each party.
3. If all the requirements are fulfilled and verified, a marriage will be legally completed and confirmed by the court.

Documents Required for Nepali

1. Citizenship.
2. Unmarried or divorced Verification Certificate from permanent residence.

4. 2 witnesses who have Nepalese citizenship
5. 4 photos(pp size).

Documents Required for Foreigner

1. Citizenship of his/her respective country.
2. Passport
3. Visa
4. Marriage Law or act of his/her respective country translated into English or Nepali language.
5. Temporary Residence Certificate(must have been residing in Nepal for a minimum of 15 days) from the ward office of your temporary address.
6. No Objection Letter(NOC) from the respective country’s embassy or consular office located in Nepal stating that he/she is unmarried or divorced.
7. 4 photos(pp size)

Process of Court Marriage Registration in Nepal between Nepali and Foreigners

1. Fill up the application form in the district court from where you are registering.
2. Evidence of witnesses(two witnesses having Nepalese citizenship) of marriage is collected and verified
3. Legal validity of marriage, documents, and proofs are sent to CDO for verification
4. Such verified documents are transferred to the country of the foreigner
5. If the country of the foreigner approves, then the process starts under the observation of both countries’ representatives.
6. A deed of the declaration by both marrying parties should be signed accepting each other as husband and wife in consent of each party.
7. If all the requirements are fulfilled and verified, a marriage will be legally completed and confirmed by the court.
